- FOUNDATIONAL SERVICE
Examples of websites providing foundational services are;
i) The Malaysian Government website
www.malaysia.gov.my
MyGovernment is the single gateway to information and services provided by the Malaysian Government agencies on the internet. Here users can chooce from a wide area of fields sich as trade, education, transport, security, respective ministries and services they offer, current news etc. The portal bears the Malaysian flag colours and hits straight to the point of delivering information to the user.
The portal offers interaction capabilities such as feedback and enquiry options
an e-transaction center where various transactions with respective government agencies are made. The loading of the portal is quite rigid but I believe it will vary according to the connection speed and the traffic in using the site at any given time.
ii) APIIT/UCTI Online Library
This site offers basic services students need as far as library services are concerned, such as the convenience of renewing books online thereby saving users a lot of time in curbing the manual renewalof books. Students can also search for books or projects. There are also links to the vast online libraries UCTI subscribes to, which students can access with given login ID`s. The website loads very smoothly services delivered well on time. The appearence and design is simple and emphasises what the site offers rather than on visual appeal. User friendliness was in the midset behind the creation of this website, it is a good thing because users only want to enjoy services and get out, so all those needs are met very well.
- CUSTOMER- CENTERED SERVICES
The two sites below are examples of websites offering customer centered serveces.
i) Nandos Delivery
www.nandos.com.my
The intent of this website is to bring the Nandos experience to the door step of their so called "peri addicts" ( the peri lovers!) as they call them. Customers place their orders via this site and can also make call to enquire about the duration it will take for their order to reach them. They can also use the feedbak links to voice they opinions about the company, services or anything they want to discuss and even offer suggestions on how to improve services. The site loads quickly and its colorful and unique which was in my opinion a way to capture the users imagination and make them spend more on the site exploring what the company is all about-good marketing tool on its own.
Customers also have options of customising their orders according to their liking.
ii) MPH bookstores
www.mphonline.com
The sites loads very quickly and immediately you see all there is to see which is needed to buy books online and anything on that category. Customers can search books by title, author or publisher. There is the new realeses page, categories and oncoming titles for customers to view. Transactions are done by mastercards or maybank online. Customers can place orders for their favourite book titles which are normaly not stocked and MPH makes sure they deliver, showing that they really care about customers and wants to earn they loyalty. Transactions are fully secured thereby making customers rest assured that online frauds will not affect them. The site is trusted by users as MPH has estabished itself as one of the biggest booksellers in te world and has by far earnet the trust of online buyers.
- VALUE-ADDED SERVICES
i) Microsoft Learning
Microsoft Corp. has many divisions, but with this site users can access various learning tools, can undergo certification training online, locate approved training centers and even enjoy special offers on course fees and training materials. The website also has links to other Microsoft sites. Users can download trial versions of softwares and explore them. There is also a link for an online community where one can find answers for specified queries, make connections and share expetise via blogs and forums, events or by webcasts and videos. This website is trully a wonder to explore as I has used it a lot and benefited much. Training and education-its delivered here. The design, layout and colours used are bold and professional thereby cultivating a spirit of boldness and professionalism to users.
ii) eBid Online Auctions
The site`s motto- "where would you like to shop". Well this is the best alternative auction website to ebay and doesn`t charge fees for sellers. Users can buy and sell just about anything. The website is easy to navigate around in just a few clicks. It has various continental sites for manageriability and effective customer service instead of an overloaded centralised site. Products images are displayed with good resolution, the oding of content and navigations go with satisfactory speed and the appearance and colour hues used in the design give the site a fresh look and appeal. All functions common in auction sites are well in place like eBid forum, help sections, news and it has by far gained worlwide trust among users thus growing substantially and cementng its presence in the field.
CONCLUSION
I my opinion websites offering foundational services are made to be simple, easy to use but not compromising on content. Customer-centered services sites are designed to provide the same feel and atmosphere customers have when they go to literal stores. The aim is to bring that atmosphere right into where they are and even try supass literal buying. The sites have to be quick to load information and offer customers exactly what they are looking for. Payment methods have to fully secured to earn customer trust. Value-added services websites are designed to fullfill certain facets of individuals such as the need to obtain training, a place to sell items and the convinience of obtaining education from home.
